Kendall Qualls Calls Out the Hypocrisy of Tim Walz’s Previous Tax Hike Proposals
MINNEAPOLIS – Today, Governor Walz and Lt. Governor Flanagan held a gas station press conference to unveil their revised budget proposal and to highlight everyday rising costs on Americans. Included in the proposal is an increase in the amount of money the pair want to give back to individuals and families in the form of “Walz checks.” Republican gubernatorial candidate Kendall Qualls issued the following statement drawing attention to it being an election year and the hypocrisy of policies previously put forth by Walz.
“It’s ironic and hypocritical that a Governor who has previously proposed both gas tax hikes and tax increases is hiding behind the budget surplus, pretending to give money back to the taxpayers that he took through his high tax policies. Governor Walz is taking credit for your hard earned tax dollars by dubbing them “Walz checks” while ignoring the reality that this surplus is directly tied to the burdensome tax code enforced here in the state.
Instead of election year gimmicks, voters want to see solutions that will put more money in their pockets long-term. I’m proposing a combination of rebates and permanent tax cuts, which includes putting an end to the social security tax once and for all. It’s time our government stops crippling citizens.”
